Division

(hide Information)
Goal: To introduce Division conceptually by explaining its organic evolution. It begins as a concept of equal sharing, and transforms into a set of formal operations. The goal is to maintain for as long as possible, the connection between the original concept and its abstract mathematical renditions.

For Whom: A must for all learners from beginners (aged 6-7 years old and upwards) to those wishing to review their understanding and practice of Division from multiple visual approaches.

Special focus: Discriminating Division as a function that is uniquely different from Add, Subtract and Multiply. Making the correct choice in word-problem solving (Add? Subtract? Multiply or Divide?) through reasoning that is helped by visual and linguistic scaffolding. The idea is to develop numerical reasoning, using the Four Operations (Add, Subtract, Multiply and Divide) as an integrated springboard.

Best For: The majority of mainstream students whose weak understanding of Division (and its inverse relationship with Multiplication) compromises their understanding of fractions. It is ideal for the hearing impaired. Dyscalculic learners move swiftly to higher level functioning with division as a problem-solving tool. Teachers have all the exercise templates they want to attend to a diversity of student needs.

Note: The first 6 Sets cover approximately 35 % of the entire Karismath Division courseware. The remaining sets will be on offer between now and August, 2010.
