karismath - Turning Minds
Welcome
Karismath mediates visually between Math and the learner. It makes math concepts visible, accessible and useable. Learners go behind the numerical surface of mainstream Math to explore visual constructs of concepts with their minds. The use of visual scaffolding traces this natural path of learning. Initially using imagery but no numbers, the program gently moves learners to abstract concepts and mathematical operations. Designed for all whom the curriculum has failed.
Karismath Courseware
Sample, buy & download courseware from four Math Topics: Number Sense, Addition, Subtraction and Multiplication. Middle and Secondary Level topics will be added soon. Topics are organized in Sets containing animated Lessons, animated Demos and printable Student Worksheets. See samples from each Topic Set in the Karismath Courseware.
Getting Started
A brief introduction to how the Karismath program is organized, what you get for a $2 Set of materials, Karismath’s complete repertoire of courseware, what a Demo and Worksheets look like, and a simple teaching sequence.
Math Stages
“The Five Stages of Math Achievement” offers an in-depth perspective of how Math is accommodated and assimilated by most learners in the K-12 range. It breaks the process down into a set of distinct interlocking stages that suggests how a learner may be helped.
In the Epilogue, Shad proposes “visual mediation” (sight) as the “phonics” (sound) equivalent for teaching Math. He demonstrates how this makes Math both readable and understandable.
Home School
A lot of you are home-schooling because your kids don’t learn the way schools teach, especially Math. Karismath offers different approaches and one of them may work for your child. Shad began his work in North Vancouver, BC Canada by starting his monthly “Math for Moms” sessions way back in 1995. He was also homeschooled until he started regular school So you´re in good hands!

Why Karismath?
Karismath offers low-resistant, high-speed learning. The presentation offers nine additional reasons. These are portrayed as profiles of Math students struggling to survive the demands of conventionally taught Math. The nine unique learner-types are: dyscalculics, ESL Learners, Slow learners, Gifted learners, dyslexics, hearing-impaired, unresponsive under-achievers, and those who have given up because they tried everything else and failed. Karismath re-ignites interest extinguished long ago.
Teacher Training
Training courses will be offered by Shad Moarif and a co-trainer. The course will train teachers to use the CLSO Math Assessment Protocol (Elementary Topics) and help participants confirm students’ entry level by using a diagnostic and clinical approach. It will also offer a more extended understanding and application of Shad’s Five Stages of Math Achievement.
Events & News
When, where, what: Karismath conferences, new Topic offerings, & training seminars. Offers links to other important sites in Math education. Check out details on Shad’s Keynote at the 2009 LATA Conference (Vancouver BC, Canada) and his Keynote address at the 2009 IDA (Illinois Branch) Conference, both scheduled for October 2009.
